Adivasi are not superstitious but we failed to provide them proper affordable medical accessibility and facilities.
Traditionally, the Adivasi people depend on the Dishari of their villages for many things, whether it be illness, a snake bite, or any other kind of medicinal need. The traditional use of root and leaf therapy always cured their disease, and throughout the modern medical sciences, this has been developed. If some illness did not cure after having that kind of traditional therapy, they believed it was the "ghost" (Duma), because they had never been associated with such a disease before. Not only the Adivasis, but many people in both rural and urban areas still rely on the Baba, the Gunia, and so on, and worship in the manner they advised. There are many diseases that we cannot cure because of a lack of medical facilities, unaffordable medical facilities, or a lack of awareness, whatever we call it, and in the past we believed in some kind of blind belief. And if Adivasis continue to believe in their traditional method of medication, it is due to the same lack of medical facilities, unaffordability, and lack of awareness of new diseases that are on the horizon, not because they are blind believers or superstitious. If we, the mainstream society, really believe they are blind believers, then are we also no different from them? Because even we people were Bang Thali, worshipped in temples, and practised many traditional ways of therapy during the COVID-19.
Didn't watch Daman movie yet but have seen the trailer and many clips so far. In social media, even in the movie the Adivasi community portrait in a very stereotypical way. Their culture, tradition and practice are poorly research. Once again the mainstream people found an opportunity to say that Adivasi people are backward, superstitious and inhuman. I want to remind them once again that neither they are backward, nor vulnerable, nor superstitious infact they are more and most progressive people ever in the contemporary earth. This is our government and we people who want to maintain the status quo of a Brahmanical Capitalist systems are never advocate for their true upliftment in term of social, economic, political, educational, psychology development. Till now what we want a kind of development they displaced them from their ancestral land so that we can survive in the cost of their blood.
Problem is not that they believe in traditional medical practice, but problem is that we as a mainstream society failed to provide the equal kind of medical facilities to those people who are living in marginalization.
